Dundonald Castle (near Troon)

Visitor Review

“We came here totally at the recommendation of a staff member we met at our Troon B&B, whose husband works at Dundonald. We were about the only ones here on a very windy, cold, blustery Monday. Perfect to visualize what it must have been like to live here back in those days.

The people at the Visitor Center were so friendly! Colin took the time to talk us through the exhibits room – and even had me put on Knight Helmets to give me an idea of what that was like! Then he took the time to lead us up the hill to the castle for what turned into a “private” and quite detailed historical tour of the Castle, including how they are learning more about what went on.

What an amazing time!

We pretty much got to see all the various rooms and climbed all over the place. We thoroughly enjoyed all the titbits and facts! Thank you all so much for adding to our knowledge of Scottish History!”

Dumfries House and Gardens

Dumfries House was recently saved by the intervention of His Royal Highness, The Duke Of Rothesay. Prince Charles (The UK’s future King).

Prince Charles often stays within the main house) there are three flags which are flown at various times by the House. One is the Standard for Scotland of Prince Charles, Duke of Rothesay, and is flown whenever he is in residence at the House. The third is the Union Flag. At all other times, the flag flown is the Dumfries House Flag.

Dumfries House, is one of Britain’s most beautiful stately homes. Set within 2,000 acres of land, this stunning estate and 18th-century house with its unrivalled collection of original Chippendale furniture has something for everyone. Tours of the Main House can be arranged at extra cost and must be pre-booked.

Culzean Castle

Robert Burns Birthplace Museum (Scotland’s Famous Poet)

“another one of Ayrshire’s hidden gems”

5 star review on Trip Advisor

From here, we make our way down the coast (most scenic) route to Dunure a small fishing village that was transformed into a set for the “Outlander Series”.

Further down the road is the famous “Electric Brae” Turn off the engine of your vehicle on the Electric Brae and your vehicle will magically roll uphill. … Fortunately, there’s a much simpler explanation. So wait and see. Views to the right of Culzean Castle.

Culzean Castle and Gardens ( 4.5 out of 5.0 Tripadvisor): Is owned by The National Trust of Scotland(there is a charge to enter). The former home of the Marquess of Ailsa, the chief of Clan Kennedy. The Castle was used as the castle of Lord Summerisle (played by Christopher Lee) in the 1973 cult film The Wicker Man. Culzean was visited on 4 occasions, by President. General D Eisenhower and is quoted as saying of Culzean ‘This is a place I can relax’. An Apartment in the Castle is named after the President.

Trump Turnberry Hotel & Spa

Ayrshire’s 5 star Hotel with golf club with views over the Ayrshire coast towards the Alisa Craig. The granite from Alisa Craig is used for manufacturing Curling Stones. These stone are Manufactured in Ayrshire in my home town of Mauchline.

A.D.Rattery’s Whisky Experience, Kirkoswald.

M-Line Travel highly recommend a visit to AD Rattery’s Whisky Experience to any Ayrshire tourists as this is a most enjoyable experience (whether you have tasted whisky or not). With their distinguished award-winning whisky brands, each bottle has it’s very own unique distinguishable taste and accompanied fable. To entertain and delight our guests.

Last stop in Largs, a beautiful seaside town and sample some of their infamous delicious ice creams and a “wee bit of shopping”
